How it all started…

Manuel R. Machado founded Machado Backhoe Service in 1969 after working for The Stevinson Corporation as a cowboy and heavy equipment operator. There he drove one of the first crawler/backhoes in the central valley in 1961, an Allis-Chalmers Mark V. After encouragement from his boss, Mr. Kelly, Manuel and his wife Madeline took a risk at the time with their five young children, which eventually grew to six. Starting out with only one backhoe, he quickly gained the trust and confidence of the community developing lifelong customers and friends. Working with local farmers, dairies, and duck clubs Manuel slowly began to build his business, always keeping the foundation based on taking care of his customer’s needs as number one.

In 1983, after working alongside his father for almost a decade, Dan and his wife Corinne bought into the business becoming partners. With Dan’s passion, he immediately added an underground pipeline and demolition division to the business. Which required a rapid expansion, adding more backhoes, dump trucks, and a precast facility, which began with manufacturing the old Souza duck blinds. In 1990 the youngest of the children Rob, joined the pair, really making it a family affair. Their dedication to people, their work ethic, and their drive to satisfy and take care of their customers, really took the business to new heights expanding into more territories, including commercial and government work. With Manuel’s retirement in 1993 and incorporating the business in 2000, MBI was born.

Trying to keep up with the ever-changing industry, long reach excavators were added to the fleet for lagoon, pond, and ditch cleaning. Short stick excavators and roll off dumpsters were added to fulfill the demolition division, which now possesses the capacity to take on any size project with the capability of being both efficient and cost-effective. MBI dove heavily into wetlands restoration, working with several federal, state, and local government and conservation agencies to help aid in the preservation of wildlife refuges and animal habitat.

Both of Dan and Corinne’s children grew up working alongside their parents and grandparents and knew that MBI is where they wanted to land to carry on the family business. In 2002, after high school, their daughter Natalie joined the company working part-time, while obtaining her BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a Minor in Economics. After graduating college in 2006 from California State University Stanislaus she continued with the company full time becoming their Chief Financial Officer and completed her MBA in 2008. Natalie’s main focus was the precast facility, working to grow products manufactured and products offered. MBI is now a full-on irrigation supplier and precast facility. Manufacturing over twenty different precast product lines, supplying PVC, HDPE, CMP, numerous types of Valves, Flow Meters, Fittings, Adhesives, and Hardware. This has allowed MBI to be more competitive with our installation division, as well as work with many other contractors near and far, to aid in the completion of their projects.
